Nine of Spades

Kant's whole challenge to his century was a single Latin phrase: sapere aude, dare to know — and daring, he was careful to note, was the harder half of that instruction, since real knowing tends to cost the knower something. The Nine is that cost arriving. A single idea pierces a darkness the mind had gotten comfortable inside, and comfort, once pierced, doesn't easily go back to being comfort. Jung's individuation runs directly through moments exactly like this — not gentle unfolding, but a genuine crisis of light that the old, smaller self can't survive intact. This is not gradual. This is a cleaving. What's on the other side of it is larger, but you don't get there without the actual tearing.
