The historical signal
In the early-twentieth-century “Modern Use” system, this card concerns social warmth, appetite, and the voyager's temperament.
The card
The King makes decisions that outlive the mood in which they were made. Warmth and appetite can lead generously, provided charisma does not appoint itself emperor of everyone else's interior life. Jung's senex brings order to affection, home, and projection; its shadow is rigidity and the belief that control is identical to wisdom.
Where must authority become accountable stewardship?
For today: use warmth to make room for another voice rather than to command the room.
