Ten of Spades

The finest Enlightenment minds understood something their critics often missed: a thesis is only as strong as the antithesis it can survive standing next to. The Ten holds exactly that tension — ten spades balanced, each opposing its counterpart, the whole structure resting on disagreement rather than despite it. Jung would call this the coincidentia oppositorum, the coexistence of opposites that doesn't resolve into one winning — a mature mind's actual foundation, built through genuinely surviving its own doubts rather than suppressing them. Ideas built this way don't crumble the first time they're questioned. They were built by being questioned.
