Nine of Hearts

A Roman household kept an imago, a wax death-mask of its ancestors, displayed at gatherings to prove the family's worth to visitors — a decoration for the eyes of others as much as a memory for its own. The Nine asks you to look at your own imagines and decide, honestly, which ones you're keeping for yourself and which ones you're keeping for the room. Jung called individuation the process of shedding a persona built for approval down to whatever self remains underneath it. That's the real gift of a Nine, in this suit as in every other: not something new revealed, but the ornamental stripped away from what was already true and durable underneath it.
